34th ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group Meeting

GISEA attended the 34th ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group (MTWG) Meeting that was held from the 19th to 21st of September in Bohol, Philippines.

The meeting was organised and hosted by the Philippines' Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Provincial Government of Bohol. It was held in Hennan Resport in Panglao Island.

GISEA attends the MTWG as a Dialogue Partner under the IMO-ASEAN Partnership. The GISEA Project Manager, made a presentation on updates of its activities in 2017 to support the MOU on ASEAN Cooperation Mechanism for Joint Oil Spill Preparedness and Response (ASEAN MOU) and the Regional Oil Spill Contingency Plan (ROSCP). These activities include:

  • The ASEAN IMO OPRC Level 3 Workshop
  • Support for the development of the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan of Myanmar
  • Support for the Philippine National Workshop on the Finalisation of their National Oil Spill Contingency Plan; and
  • Support for the Gulf of Thailand (GOT) Sub-regional Programme

He also presented on the next phase of GISEA, which will be from 2018 to 2020. The Management Plan for this phase would focus on continued support for the implementation of the ASEAN MOU and the:

  • Development of National Plans (approved and exercised)
  • Development of Tier 2 frameworks
  • Development of annual national programs for oil spill response training and exercises
  • Signing and ratification of OPRC 1990
